Did you know there’s a new way for people with disabilities to save money without losing their federal
benefits? It’s called an ABLE United account, and it has already changed the futures of more than 1,000
Floridians by offering them newfound financial stability and independence.
With an ABLE United account, Florida residents with disabilities can save up to $14,000 per year tax-free
without risk of losing Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicaid. The money they save can then be
used toward a wide range of qualifying expenses, such as housing, healthcare, education, transportation,
employment training and other basic living expenses.
The program exists because of recent legislation called the Stephen Beck Jr. Achieving a Better Life
Experience (ABLE) Act. To be eligible for an account, individuals must be a Florida resident and have a
qualifying disability, with onset of that disability occurring prior to age 26.
Similar to a Roth IRA or a 529 college savings plan, an ABLE United account allows individuals to increase
their savings through tax-free growth after choosing from a variety of funds. The individual owns the
account, but an authorized person may establish and help oversee the account. Family and friends can be
invited to contribute.
What would you dare to dream if you had an ABLE United account? Maybe you have a little one that you
know will need an adaptive vehicle someday. Maybe you hope to get your own place to live. Maybe you
wonder how proud your loved one would be if they could get that job … they just need to afford some
ABLE United allows Floridians with disabilities to save like never before — and therefore live like never
before. But the tax-free earnings can’t begin until you open an account. Now that you know about ABLE
United, why wait? There is no minimum contribution to open an account, and enrollment is free.
Accounts can be opened online in a process that takes about 15 minutes.
As a partner of ABLE United, we receive a donation when a member of our organization uses our unique
promo code upon opening their account – so when you sign up, you’re not only saving for the future, but
you’re benefitting FAAST. This additional funding allows us to better serve you!
