FAAST partnered with the University of Miami to implement the Step Up Technology Grant awarded by the Department of Education. Funding for this 5 year grant is being used to develop, pilot, and implement an online tool to educate teachers and parents on how to effectively implement assistive technology to support positive literacy outcomes for children ages 3-5 who have IEP’s. Six online teacher modules and four parent modules will be developed and available in both English and Spanish. The program offers incentives for the teachers and schools by supplying the classroom with iPads, access to WiFi, a classroom assistive technology kit, and resources for parents. FAAST has hired Betty Carricaburu as the Step Up AT Coordinator. Betty will provide coaching to teachers at each of the schools participating in the project to assist them with successfully incorporating the knowledge they have acquired from the online modules into the classroom setting.
